Safety and Aesthetics: Jet Washing a Slippery Courtyard in Ramsgate
Recently, we had the opportunity to undertake a jet washing job for a property manager in Ramsgate, Kent whose primary concern was the safety of the residents in a block of flats with an internal courtyard made of composite decking.
The composite decking in the courtyard had become a hazard due to accumulated dirt, grime, and algae, making it dangerously slippery when wet. The property manager sought our expertise to improve the safety for residents but also give the whole communal area a tidier, more appealing look.
Our team arrived equipped with our commercial grade jet washing equipment, ready to tackle the challenging task at hand. The first step involved a thorough assessment of the decking's condition. Years of being ignored had taken a toll, with a thick layer of grime and algae covering the surface. The jet washing commenced, and the transformation began.
The high-pressure water jets proved to be effective in stripping away the accumulated dirt and grime, revealing the clean and vibrant composite decking underneath. The algae, which had stubbornly clung to the surface, was washed away, leaving a pristine finish.
We originally planned to use large baffle tanks of water, secured in our van, to act as the water source for the job. However, a resident kindly offered us access to their water source, saving both some heavy lifting and the need to stop when we emptied a tank. A lovely gesture which we greatly appreciated and that allowed us to complete the whole job in a single day.
With the job complete the revitalised composite decking not only addressed safety concerns but also breathed new life into the courtyard, creating a more welcoming and functional space for residents to enjoy.
